The 84th Annual Academy Awards 2012: And the Oscar goes to…

Perhelatan besar The 84th Annual Academy Awards 2012 sebagai ajang penghargaan tertinggi bagi insan perfilman dunia baru saja digelar di Kodak Theater. Berbagai spekulasi, prediksi, opini, dan tebakan yang sebelumnya banyak bermunculan di permukaan setelah diumumkannya award-award sejenis pra Oscar terjawab sudah. Begitu pula berakhirnya persaingan untuk menjadi yang terbaik antara George Clooney yang sebelumnya telah dinobatkan sebagai aktor terbaik dalam Golden Globe dan Critics’ Choice Awards, dengan Jean Dujardin yang memboyong piala BAFTA dan SAG, pun juga pada pertarungan sengit aktris terbaik versi para kritikus di Critics’ Choice Awards dan juga SAG, Viola Davis, dengan Meryl Streep yang membawa pulang gelar tersebut di Golden Globe dan BAFTA.

Masing-masing lima buah piala yang diperoleh The Artist dan Hugo malam itu terasa seperti sebuah persaingan yang begitu menarik untuk diikuti, Hugo yang memimpin di awal-awal acara dimulai sempat membuat banyak audience memprediksikan Hugo lah yang akan tampil sebagai Best Picture. Namun pada akhirnya, The Artist kemudian secara perlahan mengikuti apa yang telah diraih Hugo. Tidak banyak kejutan, peraih piala Oscar tahun ini adalah nama-nama yang sebelumnya telah banyak diprediksi untuk menjadi pemenang. Kecuali pada The Girl with The Dragon Tattoo yang secara mengejutkan membawa pulang piala oscar untuk Best Achievement in Editing dan naas untuk Harry Potter series yang harus pulang dengan tangan hampa setelah 10 tahun, 8 film, dan 4 sutradara berkiprah di perfilman dunia dan tampil menjadi film series terlaris sepanjang masa.
